VS. ARIZONA STATE โ The Bruins lead the series, 19-12-1. The teams have split the last four meetings. Each school has earned victories in the away game, in high-scoring affairs, with the winning team scoring at least 38 points.
Last season in the Rose Bowl, ASU built up a 29-10 advantage heading into the fourth quarter before the then-No. 7 Bruins rallied. Paul Perkins ran for a score early in the fourth and then Thomas Duarte caught a scoring pass from Josh Rosen with 9:19 left to trim the margin to 29-23. But ASU added their second safety of the game and wrapped up the game with a late scoring run for a 38-23 decision. UCLA produced a season-low 62 yards on the ground.
In 2014, Ishmael Adams ignited a Bruin points explosion in a 62-27 win in Tempe. The defensive back returned a kickoff 100 yards and an interception 95-yards for another score as the Bruins put up the most points by a visitor in the 55-year history of Sun Devil Stadium. The big plays came in bunches as quarterback Brett Hundley connected on a pair of 80-yard scoring passes to Eldridge Massington and Jordan Payton. The teams combined for over 1,200 yards of total offense in the contest - UCLA had 225 rushing and 355 passing.
ASU won the 2013 meeting in the Rose Bowl, 38-33. UCLA won the 2012 game in Tempe 45-43 on a last-second 33-yard field goal by Ka'imi Fairbairn. Hundley led the team on that 12-play, 60-yard scoring drive after UCLA took over with 1:33 to play following a Sun Devil touchdown which had made the score 43-42. Hundley tallied four scoring passes on the day.
NEXT TIME OUT โ UCLA will continue to be on the road as the Bruins travel to Pullman, Wash., to face off against Washington State. Kickoff is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 15 at 7:30 p.m.
