UCLA’s Amick Named Candidate for Senior CLASS Award

Overland, Kan. - UCLA men's soccer player Michael Amick was named as one of 30 candidates for the 2016 Senior CLASS Award, announced the organization on Friday. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence - community, classroom, character and competition.
Amick, a defender from Sunnyvale, Calif., has been named a captain since his sophomore year and holds a 3.612 GPA in biochemistry. In the classroom, he earned third-team Capital One Academic All-America Honors in 2015, as well as Academic All-District First Team honors in 2015. On the pitch, Amick has been a standout performer since his freshman year when he earned first-team All-Freshman honors from Top Drawer Soccer and College Soccer News. As a sophomore, he was named to the NSCAA All-America Third Team and helped lead the Bruins to the NCAA Championship game. Amick has also volunteered for several community service ventures, including the annual Adopt-A-Classroom program and UCLA's I'm Going to College program.
An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
The 30-player class will be narrowed to 10 finalists midway through the regular season, and those 10 names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select one male candidate and one female candidate who best exemplify excellence in the four Cs of community, classroom, character and competition.
The Senior CLASS Award winners will be announced during the 2016 NCAA Men's and Women's College Cup® championships in December.
