UCLA Faces No. 1 West Virginia in NCAA 3rd Round
No. 4 seed UCLA (15-5-1) will play No. 1 seed West Virginia (21-1-1) in the NCAA Round of 16 on Sunday, Nov. 20. The match wil take place at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium at 2:30pm ET/11:30am PT and will be live streamed on wvusports.com.
Canada vs. Canada
UCLA freshman Jessie Fleming will battle against her Canadian Olympic teammates Kadeisha Buchanan and Ashley Lawrence, who are two of seven Canadians on the West Virginia squad. Fleming, Buchanan and Lawrence helped lead Team Canada to a bronze medal at the 2016 Olympic Games.
Second Round Recap
UCLA advanced to the third round of the NCAA Tournament after a 2-0 second-round victory over Nebraska. The fourth-seeded Bruins scored in the fourth and 88th minutes en route to recording their third consecutive shutout. Annie Alvarado had the early goal, and Amber Munerlyn finished it off with an insurance goal with three minutes left on the clock. Goalkeeper Teagan Micah earned her third-straight shutout and ninth of the season.
First Round Recap
Fourth-seeded UCLA recorded a 3-0 shutout victory over Seattle in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, receiving goals from Anika Rodriguez, Zoey Goralski and Amber Munerlyn. Freshman goalkeeper Teagan Micah earned her second consecutive shutout and eighth of the season, making four saves in the contest.
UCLA Against the NCAA Field
UCLA posted a 5-5-1 record against members of the 64-team NCAA Tournament field during the regular season. The Bruins have wins over Long Beach State (2-1), Pepperdine (3-0), Penn State (1-0), USC (1-0) and Texas A&M (1-0). UCLA's only blemishes this year have come against NCAA Tournament teams - a tie against Cal (1-1) and losses to Stanford (2-3 in OT), Utah (0-2), Florida (3-4 in OT), Colorado (0-1) and North Carolina (1-2).
UCLA in NCAA Tournament Play
After a one-year absence, the Bruins are making their 20th overall appearance in the NCAA Tournament. UCLA has a 57-16-4 all-time NCAA Tournament record. The Bruins advanced to the quarterfinals in their last tournament appearance in 2014 and won their first championship in 2013.

The Bruins finished the regular season ranked No. 18 in the NSCAA rankings, 20th in the Soccer America poll and 14th in the Top Drawer Soccer poll.

Multiple Weapons
Even with Jessie Fleming, Darian Jenkins and Amber Munerlyn totaling 23 goals between them (10 from Fleming, 7 from Jenkins and 6 from Munerlyn), there have been a total of 13 different Bruin players who have scored this season. Also seeing the back of the net have been three-goal scorers Anika Rodriguez, Gabbi Miranda and Annie Alvarado, two-goal scorer Courtney Proctor, and single-goal scorers Gabrielle Matulich, Julia Hernandez, Claire Winter, Chloe Castaneda, Sunny Dunphy and Zoey Goralski. Rodriguez, Alvarado and MacKenzie Cerda have been the main providers for the Bruin goals with eight, six and six assists, respectively.
About the Mountaineers
West Virginia has posted 12 shutouts in its last 13 games, its only non-shutout coming in a 3-2 overtime victory over TCU in the Big 12 Championship game on Nov. 6. The Mountaineers have allowed just eight goals all season and have a team goals against average of 0.34 with 16 shutouts. On the offensive end, the Mountaineers have six players in double-figure scoring, led by Michaela Adam, who has 29 points off 11 goals and seven assists. Adam scored the golden goal in double overtime to defeat Ohio State in the second round, 1-0. This will be the first-ever meeting between UCLA and West Virginia.
Bruin Strong
Seven Bruins have logged at least 1400 of 1954 minutes of playing time in the team's 21 games this season. Goalkeeper Teagan Micah has played in all 1954 minutes, while Hailie Mace (1833), Kaiya McCullough (1699), Zoey Goralski (1632), Annie Alvarado (1623), MacKenzie Cerda (1459) and Anika Rodriguez (1400) have each played 1400 minutes or more.
Seniors Saving Best for Last
Seniors Amber Munerlyn, Annie Alvarado and Gabbi Miranda have posted career seasons in their final year of competition. Munerlyn ranks third on the team in scoring with career-high total of six goals and 15 points. Alvarado also has new career-highs this year with three goals (tied her career-high set last season), six assists and 12 points, and Miranda has scored a career-high three goals with seven points.
Sixth Year's a Charm
Courtney Proctor's sixth and final year as a Bruin is looking to be one of her best. She has played in 15 games with seven starts. She scored her first goal of the season against California, tying the game with 53 seconds left in regulation to send the game to overtime. The goal was her first since the 2013 season. She also had an assist against Washington and scored the game's first goal against Washington State. Proctor began her career at UCLA in 2011, redshirted due to a torn ACL in 2012, played 24 games during UCLA's NCAA championship year in 2013 then played just six games in 2014 due to injury. She was granted a redshirt exception after the 2015 season and came back for her sixth season this year.
Freshman Four in TDS Top 40; Alvarado in Upperclassmen Top 100
Four UCLA Bruins are ranked in the Top 40 of Top Drawer Soccer's midseason Top 100 freshman list, including top-ranked Jessie Fleming. UCLA is the only school with two freshmen in the Top 10, as forward/midfielder Anika Rodriguez joins Fleming in the Top 10 at No. 7. Defender Kaiya McCullough ranks 27th, and goalkeeper Teagan Micah ranks 40th. Fleming leads the team in goals scored (10) and points (25) in 18 games played, and Rodriguez leads the team in assists with eight, one off the UCLA freshman record of nine, set by Staci Duncan in 1998. Additionally, Annie Alvarado, who is tied for fourth in the Pac-12 in assists with six, is ranked in the midseason Top 100 Upperclassman list at No. 63.
From UCLA to USA
Future Bruins Marley Canales and Mal Pugh have been selected to represent the United States at the 2016 FIFA Under-20 Women's World Cup, which will take place in Papua New Guinea from Nov. 13-Dec. 3. The U.S. opened tournament play on Nov. 14 with a scoreless draw against France and then downed New Zealand, 3-1. Pugh scored a goal in the win over New Zealand and was named the Player of the Match. The U.S. will wrap up group play against Ghana on Nov. 21.
