EUGENE, Ore. -- Nirra Fields scored 23 points, her 34th career 20-point game, to lead No. 12 UCLA to a 77-72 win at Oregon (19-7, 8-7) on Friday night at Matthew Knight Arena.
UCLA (20-6, 12-3) trailed 11-6 with 5:04 remaining in the first quarter after starting out just 1-for-10 from the floor. The Bruins had a 10-7 rebounding advantage to keep the score close, trailing 19-14 at the end of the first.
The Bruins came out in the second quarter and engineered a 12-1 run over the final 4:29, forcing Oregon into three turnovers while going 0-for-7 from the field, to build a 33-29 lead at the break. Fields led all scorers with 13 points at the half.
Oregon came out of the locker room in the third on fire, scoring the first 10 points, including three from long distance, to claim a 39-33 lead. But UCLA got things going with a three-pointer by Kari Korver and two steals and layups by Kennedy Burke to only lose the quarter by two points at 25-23, entering the fourth with a 56-54 lead.
UCLA never trailed in the fourth quarter and held a 69-63 lead after a layup by Kacy Swain off a nice feed from Kelli Hayes with 3:03 to go. Oregon's Jillian Alleyne tied the game at 70-70 with 0:52 seconds left. Jordin Canada raced down the court and drew an and-one with 0:45 remaining but missed the free throw. But she made up for it on the other end with a steal and Fields sank a pair of free throws to make it 74-70 with :19 to go. After the Bruins got another stop, Canada made the first free throw and Monique Billings cleaned up her second with an offensive rebound and putback to push the lead to UCLA's largest of the game at 77-70 with :08 remaining.
Canada was the only other Bruin to reach double figures with 20 points. Two Bruin post players had solid games with Billings scoring nine points and grabbling eight rebounds while Lajahna Drummer contributed seven points and eight rebounds to help the Bruins outrebound Oregon 36-27.
Alleyne finished with a double-double of 25 points and 11 rebounds. The Ducks had a quartet of players reach double figures as Lexi Bando and Lexi Petersen each scored 15 points and Kat Cooper added 11.
