LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The No. 29 UCLA women's tennis team downed No. 45 Baylor, 4-1, in Saturday afternoon's showdown. With the win, the Bruins improve to 7-3 on the season.
UCLA made quick work of Baylor in doubles. The fifth-ranked duo of Cat Harrison and Kyle McPhillips coasted past No. 15 Kiah Generette and Blair Shankle, 6-1, on court 1. Terri Fleming and Kelly Shaffer quickly followed suit, defeating Rhiann Newborn and Gabriela Ferreira, 6-3, on court 2. With the doubles point clinched, the Bruins took a 1-0 lead.
In singles play, Baylor struck first. Ferreira downed Shaffer in straights on court 6 to even the score at 1-1. The Bruins responded with three straight wins to clinch the match, 4-1. Freshman Alaina Miller got things started for UCLA on court 3 with a straight-set win over Generette. After edging Theresa Van Zyl 7-5 in the first set, Fleming cruised past her Baylor opponent in the second set to take the match.
With three matches still playing, the Bruins led the Bears 3-1. Tied at 6-6, No. 19 Harrison and Newborn headed into the tiebreaker. After a back-and-forth battle, Harrison edged Newborn 7-4 to take the match and clinch for UCLA.

Next up, UCLA hosts No. 40 Washington State and No. 19 Washington. The match against the Cougars takes place Friday, Mar. 4, at 1:30 p.m. The Bruins square off with the Huskies on Saturday, Mar. 5, at 12 p.m.
