
Bruins Lead, Garrick-Madey Share Lead

WAIKOLOA, Hawai'i - The Bruins shot a blistering 16-under as a team on Friday and will take a two-shot lead into Saturday's final round, while senior Jonathan Garrick and freshman Cole Madey are tied for the individual lead at -9.
UCLA is -25 (551) for the tournament after a second-round 272. The Bruins lead USC by two strokes. The Bruins (-9) are 10 shots better than the field on the par 3's and three strokes better at -23 on the par 5's.
Madey followed his bogey-free round on Thursday with seven birdies and an eagle in round two to shoot a career-best, 7-under 65, putting him at -9 (135). Starting on the eighth hole, Madey made birdies on the ninth and 11th, coupled with bogeys on #10 and #13, before going 7-under on his final eight holes. The run started with an eagle on the 18th, which was followed by back-to-back birdies on the first and second and three in a row on holes #4-6.
Garrick shares the lead with his freshman teammate after a second-round and season-best 66 (-6). Opening at the seventh, the senior made birdies on holes #9, #14, #15, #17, #18, #2, #3 and #4, with a double bogey on the 16th his lone blemish on the scorecard. It was Garrick's 10th under-par round of the season and seventh in the 60's.
Freshman Patrick Murphy, playing as an individual, is tied for 11th at 5-under (139) after shooting a 2-under 70 on Friday. After starting on the 17th with a bogey, he eagled the 18th before losing both of those shots with a double on the first. Murphy responded with birdies on holes #4, #5, #8 and #11, along with a bogey on the 10th, to sit four back of the lead.
Sophomore Corey Shaun was also 2-under on the day and is 4-under (140) through 36 holes to put him in a tie for 18th. Starting on the ninth, he made birdies on holes #11, #14, #15, #18, #1 and #4, with bogeys on the 10th and 12th and a double on the eighth.
Senior Lorens Chan is 3-under (141, T-22) after two rounds after shooting a 71 (-1). He opened with a bogey on the seventh and added another on the 12th, but was steady for the rest of his round, with birdies on #1, #2 and #4. Freshman Phil Delisi had a non-team scoring 72 (E) and is even (T-39) through two rounds. He birdied the 12th, 18th, second and third, to go with bogeys on the fourth and seventh and a double on the sixth.
The Bruins will start on the first through third holes in Saturday's final round, which will be another shotgun start at 7:30 a.m. HT/9:30 a.m. PT. Murphy will begin on the 13th. Live scoring can be found here.
