
Bruins Place Second at Amer Ari Invite

WAIKOLOA, Hawai'i - The Bruins shot their best 54-hole score of the season and finished second at the Amer Ari Invitational, posting a 27-under total for the three-day tournament. With a 2-under 286 on Saturday, UCLA finished two strokes behind USC.
The 54-hole total of 837 was the best three-round score for the Bruins since the 2014 Goodwin in Stanford. UCLA was first in the field on the par 3's at 6-under, 10 shots better than the next team, as well as tops on the par 5's at -29 and in birdies made (64).
Three Bruins finished inside the Top 15, led by senior Jonathan Garrick, who tied for fifth at 9-under (207). It was his fourth Top 10 of the season and the fifth time out of five tournaments that he led UCLA in scoring. On Saturday, he shot an even-par 72. He made birdies on the first, fifth and 18th, along with bogeys on holes #9, #13 and #14.
For sophomore Corey Shaun, it was a career-best, 6-under total of 210 to put him in a tie for 10th. His final round was a 2-under 70, his third straight. Shaun finished the weekend first in the field on the par 3's at 4-under. Starting on the second, he made birdies on holes #3, #9, #13, #14, #18 and #1 to go with bogeys on the fourth, sixth, eighth and 16th. Freshman Cole Madey posted his second straight Top 15 finish, going T-13 at -5 (season-best 211). He was 4-over (76) on Saturday, making bogeys on four of his first five holes, as well as the 16th, to go with a birdie on the fourth.
Senior Lorens Chan tied for 30th at 2-under 214, recording a 1-over 73 on Saturday. Opening on the third hole, he made birdies on the fourth, fifth, 18th and second, coupled with bogeys on the third, seventh, eighth, ninth and 11th. After a pair of even-par rounds, freshman Phil Delisi was one better in his final 18 with a 1-under 71 to finish in a tie for 36th (-1, 215). He made birdies on the fourth and 14th to go with a bogey on the sixth. Playing as an individual, freshman Patrick Murphy shot an 87 (+15) to finish in a tie for 92nd (+10, 226).
The Bruins' next tournament will take them to the other end of the country, as they participate in The Hayt in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. (Feb. 26-28).
