
UCLA Drops Pac-12 Home Opener to UW

LOS ANGELES - Sophomore Madeline Jelenicki recorded two of the Bruins' four hits on Thursday night, but #14 UCLA dropped its Pac-12 home opener to #10 Washington by a score of 9-0 in six innings at Easton Stadium.
Washington (20-6, 1-3 Pac-12) scored runs in five of its six innings. Sophomore Johanna Grauer started and struck out one in 1 1/3 innings, allowing three runs, five hits and one walk. Sophomore Selina Ta'amilo pitched 4 2/3 frames of relief, fanning one and giving up six runs, 10 hits and two walks.
Besides Jelenicki's two singles, the only other hits for the Bruins (18-9-1, 1-1-1 Pac-12) came from sophomore Kylee Perez and freshman Zoe Shaw. In the first, an RBI ground out by Kimberlee Souza and an RBI single from Casey Stangel put the Huskies up by a pair. An RBI single by Trysten Melhart in the second made it 3-0.
In the third, Stangel led off with a double and scored on the same play on two Bruin errors to make it 4-0, while Melhart later singled in a run to extend the advantage to 5-0. A solo homer by Ali Aguilar in the fourth gave Washington its sixth run and a three-run shot from Tannon Snow in the sixth brought the lead to 9-0.
UCLA had runners at second and first twice in the game, in the third and fifth innings, but was unable to score.
