DeLAND, Fla. -- No. 4 UCLA (7-3) posted its fourth sweep of the season with a 5-0 win over No. 10 Florida International (5-3) on Friday morning at the Stetson Beach Invitational at the Cooper Beach Volleyball Courts.
The Bruins won the first point on court five when junior Laurel Weaver and senior Julie Consani defeated Florida International's Natalia Giron/Savannah Davis in straight sets, 21-16, 21-18.
UCLA went up 2-0 on court four after sophomore Reily Buechler and freshman Zana Muno dispatched FIU's Estefanie Bethancour and Tina Toghiyani in come-from-behind fashion, 19-21, 21-16, 15-5.
The Bruins went up 4-0 on court three when the Bruins' duo of senior Kamila Tan and sophomore Ivey Schmitt defeated the Florida International tandem of Kari Peterson and Dominique Dodd in straight sets, 21-16, 21-15.
UCLA completed the sweep of 5-0 as sophomore Elise Zappia and freshman Izzy Carey defeated the Panthers' Marina Boulanger and Anabela Sataric, 21-18, 21-13.
In exhibition play, the Bruins' pairing of senior Karly Drolson and junior Jordan Anderson took down the Panthers' Katie Friesen and Katie Hogan, 21-10, 21-14.
The Bruins return to action on Saturday, March 26 when they conclude play in the Stetson Beach Invitational. UCLA opens play at 6:00 a.m. PT against No. 17 Florida Atlantic and then will face the hosts No. 9 Stetson at Noon.
