UCLA Rowing Earns Morning Victories

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. - The UCLA women's rowing team competed against No. 2 California and No. 20 Duke in the Pac-12 Challenge at Redwood Shores Lagoon on Saturday.
The Bruins' top two varsity eight crews earned victories over Duke, while UCLA was edged by California in each of its races against the Golden Bears.
In the morning sessions, the Bruins' varsity eight crew posted a time of 6:30.70, crossing the finish line 6.4 seconds ahead Duke's varsity eight (6:36.70). UCLA's second varsity eight crew finished its race in 6:38.70, just 3.8 seconds ahead of Duke (6:42.50).
In UCLA's two other morning races, the Bruins' varsity four finished behind Duke and the second varsity four was edged by California's third varsity four. UCLA's varsity four crew posted a time of 7:33.00, crossing the finish line 11.5 seconds behind Duke (7:21.50). In the team's final morning race, the second varsity four crew posted a time of 7:48.10, while California finished the race in 6:33.80.
Racing resumed for the Bruins shortly after 3 p.m. California posted a time of 6:33.80 in the varsity eight race, crossing the finish line just ahead of UCLA (6:38.40).
The Bruins' second varsity eight, varsity four and second varsity four crews also finished behind California in the afternoon races. UCLA's second varsity eight crew posted a time of 7:05.90, while the varsity four crew clocked in with a time of 8:21.90 and the second varsity four boat registered a time of 7:58.24.
UCLA will return to action at the two-day San Diego Crew Classic next weekend (April 2-3). The San Diego Crew Classic takes place at Mission Bay in San Diego.
