UCLA Races Five Boats in Crew Classic

The No. 20 UCLA women's rowing team concluded competition at the two-day San Diego Crew Classic with five races on Sunday, with the second varsity eight posting a second-place finish in the Petite Final race.

Rowing in Mission Bay, UCLA's second varsity eight posted a time of 6:59.147, just 0.488 seconds behind first-place competitor San Diego (6:58.659). The Bruins crossed the finish line ahead of Tennessee (7:02.176), British Columbia (7:09.643), Sacramento State (7:11.615) and Kansas State (7:16.325).

The Bruins' varsity eight crew advanced to Sunday's Grand Final race after having posted a third-place finish in its preliminary heat Saturday. UCLA posted a time of 7:10.133 on Sunday, finishing eighth in the Grand Final. California (6:49.468) earned a first-place finish, crossing the finish line ahead of Texas (6:51.682), USC (6:51.772), Wisconsin (6:54.772), Washington State (6:58.477), Gonzaga (7:01.894) and San Diego (7:02.866), respectively.

UCLA's varsity four posted a fifth-place finish in the six-boat Grand Final race on Sunday. The Bruins registered a final time of 8:17.487, crossing the finish line ahead of Washington State (8:29.552). California won the Grand Final race with a time of 7:53.859, followed by Texas (6:59.622), USC (8:09.050) and San Diego (8:11.778).

The Bruins' novice eight raced to a third-place finish in the Grand Final race. UCLA crossed the finish line in 7:31.288. Texas won the race with a time of 7:10.643, followed by Washington State (7:26.759). Rounding out the seven-team race, behind UCLA, was Minnesota (7:32.496), San Diego (7:44.922), UC San Diego (8:08.732) and Santa Clara (8:35.314).

UCLA concluded its races on Sunday with the second varsity eight competing in a B final race. The Bruins (8:27.261) finished third, crossing the finish line behind San Diego (8:13.099) and USC (8:17.356), respectively. Sacramento State (8:40.684) finished fourth and San Diego State (9:07.918) was fifth.
