PLEASANTON, Calif. - The top-ranked Bruins attempted a valiant comeback in the final round of the Pac-12 Championships, but ultimately finished in second place, three shots back of USC. Junior Bronte Law was the individual medalist runner-up, while freshman Lilia Vu placed in a tie for third.
The Bruins began the final round 13 shots back of the Trojans and posted a five-under 283 on Wednesday. UCLA's 15-under total of 849 was a season best and best-ever total at a conference championship, but was three shy of USC's -18, as the Trojans were 5-over in their final round. The Bruins posted the best score for the tournament on the par 5's at 21-under and were tied for first in par 3 scoring at +1.
Law finished at 10-under (206), which was one shot back of Arizona State's Linnea Strom. After back-to-back rounds of 70 on Monday and Tuesday, the junior was bogey-free on Wednesday with a 6-under 66. Law made birdies on the first, fourth and sixth holes, and then gained strokes on #13, #15 and #18. Her birdie on the closing hole put her in a share of the lead in the clubhouse, but Strom birdied the 18th to take medalist honors.
Vu was 3-under (69) in her final round to finish in a two-way tie for third at 8-under 208. She made birdies on the fourth and sixth before dropping a shot on #9. Vu quickly got that shot back on the 10th, and after seven pars, birdied the 18th. Fellow freshman Bethany Wu was 1-over (73) on Wednesday to finish in a tie for 12th at -1 (215). She eagled the eighth and also had birdies on #4, #9 and #17 to go with two bogeys and two doubles.
Junior Hadas Libman placed T-36 at +6 (222). She shot a non-team scoring 5-over (77) in her final round, as she had 13 pars and five bogeys. Senior Louise Ridderström was 3-over (75) on Wednesday to finish in a tie for 40th at +7 (223). She made four birdies on the third, 10th, 14th and 18th, adding three bogeys and two doubles.
