Scarvelis Named Athlete of Week
May 04, 2016 | Track & Field

Senior Nicholas Scarvelis (Santa Barbara, Calif.) of the UCLA track & field team was named the UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week for Apr. 25-May 1.
Scarvelis helped lead UCLA to a lopsided victory over rival USC on Sunday. The senior won both of his events, continuing his unbeaten streak in the shot put. The Olympic qualifier for Greece launched a mark of 66-10.75, his third time over 66-feet this outdoor season. Scarvelis, who continues to pace the country in shot put, came back and also won the discus, where he recorded a throw of 189-1. He currently ranks 16th in the country in that event as well. The 103 points scored by the UCLA men was the most tallied in the rivalry since 2004.
The Bruins will compete at the Oxy invitational this weekend and will also start postseason action when the multi-athletes head to Seattle to kick off the Pac-12 Championships.
This is Scarvelis' first UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week honor of the season and of his career.
Also nominated: Zana Muno, Beach Volleyball; Jessyka Ngauamo, Beach Volleyball; Kelsey O'Brien, W. Water Polo; Mysha Sataraka, Softball.
