LOS ANGELES -- The UCLA women's basketball team continued its philanthropical effort, completing its second shoe distribution of the year on June 2 at Ann Street Elementary School in Los Angeles.
The Bruins would like to thank their corporate partner, SEIA, which helped to outfit 128 students, staff, teachers and administrators of the kindergarten through fifth grade school in Los Angeles. Ann Street Elementary is part of the Los Angeles Unified School District. All of the boys and girls from K-5 were on hand for a day of fun, while being outfitted with new socks and a pair of athletic shoes.
"It was especially gratifying to do the shoe distribution at Ann Street Elementary because of our connection there," said UCLA Head Coach Cori Close. "Two of the children of the family that we have adopted and assisted this entire year attend the school.
"It is a great way to end the school year with finals being next week. As a teacher, I get to watch our players give to kids in such a sincere and humbling way. I'm thankful to SEIA and to UCLA for this unique opportunity. One of our core values is we want our players to leave UCLA as lifestyle givers and not lifestyle takers."
During the 2015-16 season, the women's basketball team woke up on Thanksgiving morning and went to West End Primary school while in the Bahamas and distributed nearly 180 pairs of new shoes and socks. This is the fifth year the Bruins have completed a shoe drive and distribution, but the first year they have done more than one.
