
Bruins Earn ITA All-America Honors

TEMPE, Ariz. โ Catherine Harrison and Kyle McPhillips earned All-America honors for the 2016 season, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) announced on Thursday.ย
Earning her first Singles All-American honor, Harrison finished the 2016 season ranked No. 18 in the ITA Singles Rankings.ย The 2016 Pac-12 Singles runner up compiled a 34-11 overall record in singles.ย The senior advanced to the NCAA Singles round of 32, where she fell to top-ranked Hayley Carter of UNC.ย In addition to receiving First Team All-Pac-12 honors, Harrison was also this season's ITA Southwest Region Senior Player of the Year.ย
Earning Doubles All-American honors, the fifth-ranked duo of Harrison and McPhillips close out their senior season with a 19-5 overall doubles record, which included a 10-3 mark against ranked opponents.ย The pair advanced to the NCAA Doubles Championship semifinals after upsetting top-ranked Aldila Sutjiadi and Mami Adachi of Kentucky in the NCAA quarterfinals.ย In the semis, the Bruins fell in a super tiebreaker to third-ranked Brooke Austin and Kourtney Keegan of Florida, who went on to win the title.ย During the regular season, the Bruin duo downed Pepperdine's third-ranked Matea Cutura and Christine Maddox (Feb. 18), Cal's second-ranked Maegan Manasse and Denise Starr (Feb. 20), and USC's eighth-ranked Giuliana Olmos and Gabby Smith (Feb. 25).ย This is Harrison and McPhillips' third straight Doubles All-American honor.ย ย
