Freshman Crossley Earns NCAA Singles Spot

SEATTLE โ Freshman Mayu Crossley of the UCLA women's tennis team earned her first career NCAA Championships berth with a singles semifinal-round showing at the ITA West Sectional Championships in Seattle. The University of Washington's Nordstrom Tennis Center hosted the event, which saw four Bruins take part.
No. 81 Crossley did not lose a singles match throughout the tournament, as the final two rounds were not played after the spots were won. She began her run by beating 109th-ranked Charlotte Keitel of San Diego in three sets. Crossley went on to record straight-set victories against Shachf Lieberman of UC Santa Barbara and Tilde Jagare of Oregon. The 16th-ranked doubles duo of Crossley and Bianca Fernandez also picked up a consolation win.
The doubles tandem of Kate Fakih and Ahmani Guichard collected the doubles consolation title, capping the three-match run by beating Madelynn Ludwig/Natalie Rainke of Northern Arizona 2-6, 6-1, 1-0(4). The Bruins downed No. 58 Eva Alvarez Sande/Maxine Murphy in their opener. No. 25 Fakih took down Hannah Read of San Diego in opening-round singles action.
