Kocian Begins Olympic Trials Friday

Madison Kocian will compete this weekend at the U.S. Olympic Trials at the SAP Center in San Jose, Calif. with a spot on the Olympic team on the line.
Day one of the competition begins Friday, July 8 at 5:30pm PT. NBC will broadcast the meet at 9pm ET/PT, and a webcast will begin at 8:30pm ET/5:30pm PT on NBCOlympics.com. Day two will take place on Sunday, July 10 at 5pm PT. NBC will televise at 8:30pm ET/PT, and NBCOlympics.com will webcast live at 8pm ET/5pm PT. Live results can be found at myusagym.com.
Five Olympic team members will be chosen shortly after the conclusion of Sunday's competition.
Kocian, who will enter UCLA in the fall, is the 2015 World and U.S. champion on the uneven bars and a two-time World Championship team gold medalist. She placed fifth in the all-around and second on uneven bars at the P&G Championships two weeks ago. Kocian will begin Friday's competition on floor exercise and end on balance beam.ย
UCLA has been represented in women's gymnastics at the last eight Olympic Games, with a total of 22 Bruin gymnasts and five alumnae making their country's Olympic team from 1984-2012. Several UCLA Olympians will be in attendance in the Parade of Olympians Celebration on Saturday, July 10 at the SAP Center, including associate head coach Chris Waller, volunteer assistant coach Jordyn Wieber and incoming freshman Kyla Ross. ย
