On the eve of the Opening Ceremony, women's gymnastics participated in podium training at the Olympic arena. UCLA incoming freshman Madison Kocian and the USA Gymnastics team dazzled in a preview of Sunday's team competition, hitting 20-for-20 routines with no major mistakes. Kocian was a standout on the uneven bars, where she is the reigning World co-champion.

On Friday, athletes from all countries will participate in the Opening Ceremony, which will be televised at 7:30pm ET/PT on NBC. It will also be streamed on NBCOlympics.com.

Day One of the Olympics on Saturday will see many Bruins in action. Men's water polo kicks off competition for UCLA's contingent with the United States' 6:20am PT game against Croatia. Bruin junior Alex Roelse and alumnus Josh Samuels are members of the U.S. team. The match will be televised by NBC on the west coast on delay at 9:20am PT. USA women's rugby, featuring team captain and UCLA alumna Kelly Griffin, plays against Fiji at 7am PT and Colombia at 12pm PT. Swimming alumna Ting Wen Quah from Singapore races in the 100 Fly beginning at 9am PT. Women's basketball alumna Nirra Fields and Team Canada take on China at 10:15am PT. The USA women's volleyball team, coached by UCLA legend Karch Kiraly and featuring 2015 UCLA graduate Karsta Lowe, will play Puerto Rico at 1pm PT. And all of the Bruin soccer players are in action, with Jessie Fleming and Team Canada taking on Zimbabwe at 11am PT; and Team USA (Mal Pugh and Jill Ellis), New Zealand (Rosie White) and Brazil (Aline Reis) all playing at 1pm PT.
