Men's Tennis Wraps Up Tournament Action

LOS ANGELES - Members of the UCLA men's tennis team concluded play at a pair of individual tournaments over the weekend, as the Bruins now turn their attention to the start of the dual-match season next week.
At the Sherwood Collegiate Cup in Thousand Oaks, Calif., UCLA's Evan Zhu and Joseph Di Giulio both suffered semifinal singles losses on Sunday. Zhu won the first set against Baylor's Max Tchoutakian but couldn't hold on in the end, falling 4-6, 6-1, 6-4. Di Giulio fell in straight sets, losing 6-0, 6-2 against Baylor's Juan Benitez.
Unfortunately for the Bruins, Benitez and Tchoutakian also knocked UCLA out of the doubles draw, as the Baylor duo took a 6-0 win over Ben Goldberg and Logan Staggs in Sunday's semifinals.

National Collegiate Tennis Classic Update
Michael Guzman and Daniel Gealer were the Bruins' two representatives at the National Collegiate Tennis Classic this weekend in Rancho Mirage, Calif. Guzman advanced to the quarterfinals in both singles and doubles. In singles, Guzman fell to San Francisco's Johan Joenhagen, 6-3, 6-4 on Sunday. In doubles, Guzman and Gealer opened the day with a 6-4 win over Utah's David Micevski/Egbert Weverink. They would fall in the quarterfinals to Pepperdine's Stefan Menichella and Jack Van Slyke, 6-4.
