LOS ANGELES -ย Seniors Reily Buechler (10 kills, 13 digs) and Sarah Sponcil (32 assists, 12 digs) each posted double-doubles on Friday against #3 Stanford, but the 12th-ranked Bruins dropped a four-set decision at Pauley Pavilion. Set scores were 21-25, 25-20, 23-25, 18-25.

Sophomore Savvy Simo recorded 17 digs, freshman Jenny Mosser added 10 kills and six digs and junior Kyra Rogers notched seven kills, seven digs and three aces. Sophomore Madeleine Gates tallied seven kills and five blocks, freshman Mac May had six kills and freshman Anne Crouch posted five digs. The Bruins hit .121 for the match.

Set one featured seven ties and four lead changes. UCLA (11-5, 4-3 Pac-12) led 8-7 before a 7-1 run by Stanford (14-2, 7-0) put the visitors up by five. Down 16-12, the Bruins got to within one at 17-16 on two Stanford errors, a Gates kill and a Mosser solo block. However, Stanford led for the rest of the set, winning the opener 25-21. Gates led the Bruins with two kills in the first, Simo added five digs and Buechler and Sponcil both had four digs. The Bruins were out-hit .051 to -.045.

UCLA led from start to finish in set two to even things up at intermission. The Bruins scored four of the first five on kills by Buechler and May, a Rogers ace and a Stanford attack error. UCLA's largest lead of the set was six on numerous occasions, the first of which came at 11-5. The Cardinal trimmed things to two at 12-10, but a 5-1 run for UCLA on two Rogers aces and a combo block with Mosser, a May kill and a Stanford error made it 17-11. At 23-20, a Cardinal service error and attack error closed out a 25-20 UCLA win. Mosser was error-free with four kills in six attempts, while Buechler added three kills. Sponcil posted seven digs and Simo had five, as the Bruins out-hit the Cardinal .147 to .054.
