Alfee Reft Departs UCLA for Professional Opportunities
January 21, 2026 | Women's Volleyball
LOS ANGELES โย Alfee Reft, who guided the UCLA women's volleyball team to its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2021, is departing UCLA to pursue professional opportunities.ย
ย
Reft complied a 51-40 overall record in his three seasons at UCLA and oversaw two All-Americans, Anna Dodson and Cheridyn Leverette.
ย
"I would like to thank UCLA, specifically Martin Jarmond and Kenny Donaldson for the opportunity they gave me to be a part of this tremendous community, the staff and people that make this place so special, and most importantly, to the athletes that I have had the privilege to battle with day in and day out while in Westwood," Reft said. "After heavy deliberation, I have decided to focus on myself and my family with opportunities outside of collegiate coaching. I will forever be grateful for my time here at UCLA and wish only the best for this program moving forward."
ย
UCLA's 2025 campaign produced 19 wins, the highest total of Reft's tenure, highlighted by ranked victories over No. 14 Minnesota, No. 22 USC, and defending national champion Penn State. The Bruins went on to earn a first-round victory in the NCAA Tournament, taking down Georgia Tech. UCLA went 12-8 in Big Ten play to finish tied for sixth in the conference standings.
ย
"We would like to thank Alfee for his leadership of the women's volleyball program during his three seasons at UCLA," said Martin Jarmond, the Alice and Nahum Lainer Family Director of Athletics. "He led the program into its new era in the Big Ten, building a strong and positive culture among student-athletes, coaches, and staff. His on-court leadership has elevated our women's volleyball program. We are extremely grateful for all he has contributed to the UCLA community, and we extend our very best wishes to him and his family in his future endeavors."
ย
Lola Schumacher, Marianna Singletary, and Leverette all earned AVCA All-Pacific Region recognition following the 2025 season, with Schumacher and Singletary landing on the first team and Leverette receiving Honorable Mention. All three were also selected to the All-Big Ten First Team, with Schumacher and Singletary securing the honors in their debut seasons at UCLA.
ย
Reft's debut season in 2023 saw the Bruins post an 18-12 record and a 10-10 mark in Pac-12 play, finishing sixth in the league and just outside the NCAA Tournament field. UCLA notched three wins over top-25 opponents, including late-season road victories at No. 9 Washington State and No. 24 USC, and closed conference action on a 7-3 run. Middle blocker Anna Dodson became Reft's first All-American as an Honorable Mention selection, while Dodson and opposite hitter Iman Ndiaye earned AVCA Pacific South All-Region honors, with Dodson also securing All-Pac-12 recognition.
