UCLA Handed First Loss of Season at WSU, 1-0
October 19, 2017 | Women's Soccer
PULLMAN, WASH. - No. 2 UCLA dropped its first match of the season, 1-0, at Washington State. A Cougar goal in the fourth minute stood as the only score of the game.
The game-winner came at the 3:50 mark off a set piece. After a Cougar corner kick, Kelsee Crenshaw headed the ball down into a scrum in the box, and Maegan O'Neill put a foot on it and sent it into the back of the net for the early lead.
The Cougars (8-5-2, 2-4-0) had a few other chances to break the game open in the following 15 minutes, but Teagan Micah made a series of saves, and another Washington State shot hit the post to keep it at 1-0.
UCLA likely had its best chance in the 20th minute when Delanie Sheehan headed a ball towards the upper goal, but Cougar goalkeeper Ella Dederick leaped up to tip the ball away.
Dederick finished with four saves, and Micah had a season-high-tying six.
The Bruins (12-1-2, 5-1-1) will next play at Washington on Sunday at 2pm.
