Offensive Surge Lifts UCLA over Oregon State, 5-0

October 26, 2017 | Men's Soccer

LOS ANGELES – Alex Knox had a career night collecting five points with two goals and an assist, while Milan Iloski, Santiago Herrera and Roman Martin each scored as the UCLA men's soccer team over powered Oregon State, 5-0, on Thursday from Drake Stadium. The Bruins have now won four-straight Pac-12 games and improve to 7-6-1 overall.

"It was a great way to start the second half of the conference season," said head coach Jorge Salcedo. "We scored three really good first half goals and overall it was a good performance from the team. We will continue to build on this game and hopefully take this momentum into the game on Sunday against Washington."

UCLA outshot Oregon State (5-11-0, 2-6-0) 14-10, including 8-1 in shots on goal, and a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Knox scored his first goals as a member of the Bruins and posted the second brace for UCLA this season as Brian Iloski also recorded two goals in the opening match of the year at San Francisco.

Knox recorded his first goal of the game in the 32nd minute to give UCLA a 3-0 advantage in the first half. Christian Chavez found Knox streaking up the right side of the box and he took a low shot to the near post. The sophomore then netted his second goal in the 72nd minute when he collected a goal line pass from Blayne Martinez at the front of the goal and took a shot to the upper part of the net for a 4-0 lead.

UCLA got on the board early in the eighth minute when Iloski drilled a long shot from 22 yards out that went to the upper-far corner of the net for his second goal of the season.

The Bruins made it a two-goal in the 20th minute as Knox had the ball on the left side of the field and made a service into the box that found Herrera who used a header to redirect the pass into the back of the net. Herrera now ranks second on the team with his third goal of the season.

UCLA tallied the final goal of the match in the 85th minute when Martin dribbled the ball down the field and hit a rocket from 20 yards out inside the left post for his first career goal with UCLA.

Kevin Silva posted his fourth shutout of the season on one save and his third during conference play.

UCLA will play its final home game of the season on Sunday as it hosts No. 23 Washington at 5 p.m. after the women's game at Drake Stadium. Sunday is also Senior Day as the Bruins will honor Brian Iloski and Christian Chavez prior to the match.
