UCLA Clinches Series with Win over San Jose State

LOS ANGELES โ Jake Bird threw 7.0 innings allowing one run and took a no-hitter into the seventh inning, while Daniel Amaral blasted a three-run home run as the UCLA baseball team defeated San Jose State, 10-1, on Sunday at Jackie Robinson Stadium to clinch the series win.
Bird (1-0) earned the win totaling six strikeouts and only allowing one hit in seven innings of work. His no-hit bid ended in the seventh inning as San Jose State's Chris Williams hit a one-out double to right field.
UCLA opened the game upย with a seven-run fifth inning. Nick Valaika started the scoring with a RBI-double to left field followed two batters later by Ryan Kreidler drawing a bases loaded hit by pitch. Daniel Rosica would then plate two runs with a single to center field and Amaral capped off the inning with a three-run home run over the left-center field fence to make the score 9-0.
The Bruins jumped to an early 1-0 lead in the first inning as Michael Toglia drove home Amaral with a single up the middle for his first-career RBI. UCLA added one more run in the third inning as Jake Pries scored on a sacrifice fly to right field off the bat of Sean Bouchard.
San Jose State scored its only run in the seventh inning as Kellen Strahm hit a sacrifice fly to centerfield to bring home Josh Nashed.
SJSU's Matt Brown (0-1) suffered the loss, throwing 4.1 innings, allowing three runs on two hits and three walks.
UCLA's Ryan Garcia and Nick Scheidler made their first career appearances on the mound and each totaled one inning pitched and one strikeout.
UCLA ended the game with 10 runs on six hits and one error, while San Jose State finished with one run on one hit and no errors.
The Bruins will play the series finale with San Jose State on Monday at 1 p.m. at Jackie Robinson Stadium. Admission to the game will be free.
