Bruin Gymnasts Down Devils, 197.150-194.600

Tempe, Ariz. - UCLA scored 49.3 on its first three events and finished with 49.25 on beam to defeat Arizona State, 197.150-194.600. Freshman Madison Kocian won the all-around for the third time this season, scoring a career-high 39.625, and also captured first on floor with a career-high 9.95 and second on beam with another career-high 9.95.
Kyla Ross nearly scored another perfect 10 this week, earning 9.975 on balance beam. Ross showed tremendous resiliency throughout the competition, sticking a nearly perfect 9.925 vault after a fall on bars and then winning beam with a career-high 9.975 on beam after suffering a fall on floor.
Christine Peng-Peng Lee was UCLA's other event winner, scoring 9.925 on uneven bars to capture her third bars title of the season.
Angi Cipra made her long-awaited return to competition, hitting a 9.875 on vault in her first routine of the season to tie for second place with Kocian. Katelyn Ohashi made her season debut on floor exercise and scored 9.875, placing third.
Senior Hallie Mossett earned a pair of Top 3 finishes on the two events in which she competed, scoring a season-high 9.9 on floor exercise and collecting a 9.875 on the first beam routine she has competed in two years.
UCLA next returns to Pauley Pavilion for its first home meet in a month. The Bruins will host Utah on Saturday, Feb. 11 at 2pm. Tickets are available at uclabruins.com/tickets.
