
Five Bruins Named Regular Season All-Americans

Five Bruins - Madison Kocian, Christine Peng-Peng Lee, Hallie Mossett, Katelyn Ohashi and Kyla Ross - have earned regular season All-America honors for 2017, as awarded by the National Association of College Gymnastics Coaches (NACGC/W). Lee earned her fifth All-America honor of her career, while Kocian, Mossett, Ohashi and Ross are first-time honorees.
Kocian, a freshman from Dallas, Texas and a 2016 Olympic gold and silver medalist, earned first-team honors in the all-around and second-team acclaim on floor exercise. Kocian finished the regular season ranked in the Top 10 in the all-around (No. 5) and floor exercise (No. 10). She averaged 39.406 in the all-around with a high of 39.625 and six individual victories. On floor exercise, she averaged 9.919 with a high of 9.95 set three times. She has scored 9.9 or higher on floor in her last eight meets.
Lee, a redshirt senior from Richmond Hill, Ontario, finished the regular season ranked No. 3 on uneven bars to earn first-team honors. The AAI Award finalist has scored two perfect 10s this season and has a team-best seven individual victories on the event and a season average of 9.889.
Mossett, a senior from Los Angeles, received second-team All-America honors on floor exercise, the first of her career. She averages 9.890 on the event, with career-highs of 9.975 set twice this year. Mossett's floor routine, set to a Beyonce medley, has gone viral.
Ohashi, a sophomore from Plano, Texas, closed out the regular season as the No. 1 beam worker in the nation, giving her the first All-America honors of her career. Ohashi has scored two perfect 10s on beam this year and has scored 9.9 or higher on seven consecutive routines. She averages 9.859 on the year and has four individual wins on the season.
Ross, a freshman from Aliso Viejo, Calif. and a 2012 Olympic gold medalist, finished the year ranked No. 1 in the nation on uneven bars and No. 4 on balance beam to earn first-team All-America honors on the two events. The 2017 Pac-12 Freshman of the Year ranks second in the nation in perfect 10 scores with four, two each on bars and beam. Ross won the Pac-12 beam title with a perfect 10. She leads the team with 16 individual victories and 10 scores of 9.95 or higher.
UCLA has now produced 68 All-Americans who have totaled 331 All-America honors.
First-team All-Americans are the Top 8 ranked gymnasts on each event and the all-around. Second-team All-Americans are the gymnasts ranked No. 9-16.
