LOS ANGELES -- Junior guard Jordin Canada was one of four Pac-12 Conference players to receive Honorable Mention All-America accolades from the Associated Press today, joining Stanford's Erica McCall and Karlie Samuelson and California's Kristine Anigwe.
OSU's Sydney Wiese was named to the third team and Washington's Kelsey Plum and Chantel Osahor were named to the first and second teams, respectively.
Canada has guided UCLA to its first back-to-back Sweet Sixteen appearances in school history, leading the Pac-12 in assists (7.1 apg), steals (2.5 spg) and assist/turnover ratio (2.7). She was third in the Pac-12 in scoring at 17.9 points per game and the 5-foot-6 guard was 19th in the league in rebounding (5.2 rpg) in 2016-17. Nationally, Canada ranks 15th in assist/turnover ratio, 6th in total assists and 9th in assists per game. She also ranks 30th in total steals and 43rd in steals per game.
Canada also earned several honors during the 2016-17 campaign including being named All-Pac-12 and to the Pac-12 All-Defensive Team by both the coaches and media. She was also named to the Pac-12 All-Tournament Team and the Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year by the league's media.
The junior set a UCLA single-season record this year with 242 assists, surpassing Mary Hegarty's record of 240, established 36 years ago (1980-81). She posted a double-double in all three games of the NCAA Tournament, averaging 15.7 points and 12.7 assists per game while registering 38 assists compared to seven turnovers during March Madness.
