
Six Bruins Earn Pac-12 All-Academic Honors

Led by first-team honoree Mikaela Gerber, six Bruin gymnasts earned Pac-12 All-Academic honors in 2017. Sonya Meraz repeated as a second-team selection, and Angi Cipra, Napualani Hall, Christine Peng-Peng Lee and Hallie Mossett each received honorable mention acclaim.
Gerber, a senior from Cambridge, Ontario, Canada, holds a 3.68 GPA in Psychology and is a three-time NACGC/W Scholastic All-American. She previously earned second-team Pac-12 All-Academic honors in 2016 and honorable mention in 2015. Gerber, UCLA's leadoff beam specialist, has competed in eight meets this season and is averaging 9.822 with a season-high of 9.9 achieved at the Pac-12 Championships. Gerber has hit 34 consecutive routines dating back to 2015.
Meraz, a junior from Santa Monica, Calif., has a 3.53 GPA in Biochemistry and repeats as a second-team honoree. She has competed in every meet for the Bruins this year and has in a team-high 35-straight meets. She won her first career event title on Feb. 25, tying for first on vault. She has season-highs of 9.875 on vault, bars and beam and 9.85 on floor. Her all-around season-high came on Mar. 12, a 39.250 that was good for second place.
Cipra, a senior from Mesa, Ariz., will finish her career as a three-time Pac-12 All-Academic honoree. This season, she is 12-for-12 in hit routines and averages 9.871 on floor and 9.838 on vault. She has posted a 9.9 on floor in three of her last four meets. In 2016, Cipra earned regular season All-America and All-Pac-12 honors on floor exercise.
Hall, a junior from Kansas City, Mo., earns her first Pac-12 All-Academic honor. She has competed in eight meets for the Bruins this year, posting career-highs on vault (9.9) and floor (9.875).
Lee, a redshirt senior from Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada, receives her third honorable mention nod. The AAI Award finalist and Pac-12 Specialist of the Year ranks third in the nation on bars and 17th on beam. She has scored two perfect 10s on bars this year and earned first-team regular season All-America honors on that event.
Mossett, a senior from Los Angeles, Calif., picks up her first Academic all-conference nod. A first-team All-Pac-12 honoree and second-team regular season All-American on floor, Mossett averages 9.89 on her signature event and has two scores of 9.975 this season.
To be eligible for selection to an All-Academic Team, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade-point average and have participated in at least fifty percent of competitions this regular season.
