UCLA Rowing Excels at UC Challenge Cup

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. – The UCLA women's rowing program opened its spring season with top finishes at the UC Challenge Cup on Saturday morning.
 
The Bruins rowed four boats in three total races, securing top finishes across the board.
 
UCLA's varsity eight posted a first-place time of 6:18.50, crossing the finish line well ahead of UC Santa Barbara (6:34.50) and UC Davis (6:43.60).
 
The Bruins raced a pair of eights in the women's second varsity eight race, registering the top two marks. UCLA's second varsity eight posted a time of 6:27.90 while the third varsity eight finished second in the race (6:28.90). Rounding out the third and fourth place finishes in that race were UC Santa Barbara's 'A' and 'B' boats, crossing the finish line at 6:50.80 and 7:10.20, respectively.
 
UCLA's novice eight crew raced to a first-place finish, posting a time of 6:57.10. The Bruins finished well ahead of UC Santa Barbara (7:18.40), UC Davis (7:37.20) and UC Irvine (8:09.20).
 
UCLA will return to action at home in Marina del Rey, Calif., on Saturday, March 11, rowing against Stanford and San Diego State.
