
UCLA to Compete in NCAA Semifinal I on Apr. 14

UCLA will compete in the afternoon session of the NCAA Women's Gymnastics Championships team semifinals on Friday, Apr. 14. The competition will take place at 12 pm CT at Chaifetz Arena in St. Louis, Mo. and will be televised live on ESPN2. Also competing in the afternoon session are Oklahoma, Washington, Oregon State, Utah and Denver.
Competing in the evening session at 7 pm CT will be LSU, Nebraska, Michigan, Alabama, Florida and Georgia. The evening session will be broadcast live on ESPNU.
Friday's team semifinals determine the all-around and event champions and the qualifiers to the Super Six Team Finals. The top three finishers from each semifinal session will advance to the Super Six Team Finals on Saturday, Apr. 15 at 8 pm CT.
The Bruins will start the meet on a bye before bars, followed by uneven bars, balance beam, another bye, floor exercise and vault. Utah has the Olympic order and will start on vault. Washington begins on bars, Denver starts on beam, Oklahoma has a bye before floor, and Oregon State begins on floor. Rotating with UCLA will be individual all-around qualifier Alexis Mattern from Ohio State.
In the second semifinal, Florida begins on vault, Michigan has a bye before bars, Nebraska begins on bars, Georgia starts on beam, LSU has the bye before floor, and Alabama begins on floor.
All teams and individuals will participate in podium training at the arena on Thursday, Apr. 13. The Bruins, along with Oklahoma, LSU and Michigan, will be in the second practice session, which runs from 1:01-2:47 pm. Podium training is free and open to the public.
UCLA will be competing in its 33rd NCAA Gymnastics Championship and seeking its seventh NCAA title and first since 2010. The Bruins have qualified to the NCAA Super Six 19
