No. 3 UCLA Stretches Winning Streak to 19 Duals

The Bruins defeated No. 20 Cal Poly, 4-1, and No. 20 LMU, 5-0 on Wednesday.

LOS ANGELESย -- No. 3 UCLA (21-2) posted two dual home wins on Wednesday over ranked teams at Sunset Canyon Beach Volleyball Courts to stretch its school-record winning streak to 19 consecutive duals. The Bruins began with a 4-1 win over No. 20 Cal Poly (10-12) and concluded the day with a 5-0 sweep of No. 20 LMU (8-9). LMU rallied from a 2-0 deficit to defeat Cal Poly 3-2 in the first dual of the day.
In the win over Cal Poly, Adlee Van Winden and Taylor Nelson put the first point on the board for the Mustangs on court two, defeating UCLA's seniorย Kamila Tan and freshman Madiย Yeomans in two tight sets, 21-18, 21-18.
UCLA tied it at 1-1 with a three-set win on court four as senior Jordan Anderson and sophomore Izzy Carey took down Cal Poly's Savannah Niemen and Anna Gorman, 21-14, 18-21, 15-6.
The Bruins then went up 2-1 on court three after freshman Torrey Van Winden and junior Elise Zappia defeated the Mustangs' Raeann Greisen and Heather Pembroke, 21-13, 21-12.
The McNamara twins provided the decisive point for UCLA (3-1) as Megan McNamara and Nicole McNamara defeated Emily Sonny and Hannah Hubbard, 21-17, 19-21, 15-6.
A pair of UCLA freshman, Lily Justine and Savvy Simo, partnered for the first time this season to beat Cal Poly's Taylor Gruenewald and Brayden Gruenewald on court five to provide the 4-1 final, 21-17, 21-15.
In exhibition play, the Bruins' pair of freshmen, Remy wilson and Chantiย Holroyd, battled to a 21-11, 19-21 draw vs. Cal Poly's Dora Beilin and Holland Boege.

In the second match of the day, the Bruins' pair of sophomore Izzy Carey and senior Jordan Anderson, who was playing in her final game at Sunset Canyon, defeated LMU'sย Emma Doud and Veronica Nederend, 21-17, 21-16.
UCLA went up 2-0 after a straight-set win on court two byย freshman Madi Yeomans and another senior playing in her final game at Sunset Canyon, Kamilaย Tan. The Bruin duo took out the Lions' Jess Prichard and Sara Kovac in straight sets, 22-20, 21-19.
Court threeย proved to be the deciding court when UCLA took a 3-0 lead as freshman Torrey Van Winden and junior Elise Zappia wasted little time taking down LMU's Kekai Whitford and Britt Estes, 21-7, 21-12.
The Bruins' twin tandem ofย sophomores Megan McNamara and Nicole McNamara beat the Lions' Sara Sponcil and Savannah Slattery, 21-13, 23-21.
Another new pairing occurred on court five when freshmen Chanti Holroyd and Savvy Simo teamed up to defeat LMU's Kristen Castellanos and Erin Williams, 21-14, 21-7.
In exhibition play, the Bruins' freshman duo of Remy Willson and Lily Justine defeated Tatiana Schlange and Kam Hill, 21-17, 21-19.
The Bruins will serve as co-hosts with #5 Long Beach State in the Battle at the Beach on April 8-9 at Ocean Park in Santa Monica, Calif. UCLA will face Washington (1-0) at Noon on Saturday and Concordia (9-3) at 2:00 p.m. On Sunday, UCLA will square off with #5 Long Beach State (17-3) at Noon and then take on #8 Arizona (11-6)ย at 2:00 p.m.
