UCLA Rowing Preps for Pac-12 Championships

May 11, 2017 | Women's Rowing

RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif. โ€“ The UCLA women's rowing program will compete in the season-culminating Pac-12 Championships on Sunday, May 14, at Lake Natoma.
ย
The annual Pac-12 Championships, hosted at the Sacramento State Aquatic Center, serve as a critical component in determining which Pac-12 programs can bolster their regular-season resumes with hopes of earning an at-large bid for the NCAA Championships. The winner of Sunday's event will secure an automatic bid to the NCAA Championships, which take place May 26-28 on Lake Mercer in West Windsor, N.J.

Entering Sunday's races, the Pac-12 features six of its seven women's rowing programs ranked among the top 20 in the latest CRCA Rowing polls (Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association). Washington and California are ranked No. 1 and No. 2, respectively, while Stanford has been ranked No. 8. Washington State and USC are ranked No. 14 and No. 15, respectively, and the Bruins round out the latest poll in the No. 20 slot.
ย
The women's rowing portion of Sunday's races will begin with the novice eight at 9 a.m. The women's third varsity eight will take place at 9:30 a.m., followed by the women's varsity four at 10 a.m. The women's second varsity eight race will begin at 10:30 a.m. and the women's varsity eight race will take place at approximately 11 a.m.
ย
The Pac-12 will host its annual awards presentation for the women's and men's participants at 12 p.m.
ย
The Pac-12 Champion is determined by a point system. The institution that secures the most points, as determined by the order of the finish of crews, will be crowned the Pac-12 Champion. Points can be accrued from each of the four women's races โ€“ varsity eight, second varsity eight, third varsity eight and varsity four.
ย
The finish in the women's varsity eight will be utilized as a tie-breaker. The program with the better finishing boat in the women's varsity eight will be awarded the better place finish at Sunday's event, in the event of a tie in the number of points.
ย
Pac-12 Networks will televise this season's Pac-12 Championships on a delayed basis on Sunday, May 21. The broadcast will air at 10:30 a.m. (PT).
ย
Live results of Sunday's races will be available through the Pac-12's championship central website.
