DURHAM, N.C. โ€“ UCLA right-handed pitcher Griffin Canning earned All-America third team honors from Baseball America, announced the publication on Thursday.

It marks the second time in three years that a UCLA player has landed All-American honors as David Berg and James Kaprielian were tabbed as All-Americans in 2015. Under head coach John Savage, UCLA has earned 11 All-American selections.

Canning, a junior from Coto de Caza, Calif., has been named an All-American second team selection by Collegiate Baseball, an All-Pac-12 team honoree and tabbed to the Pac-12 All-Defensive Team. He compiled a 7-4 record overall this season with a 2.34 ERA. Canning finished with 140 strikeouts in 119.0 innings of work with just 32 walks. He recorded four complete games, including three complete game shutouts on the road during Pac-12 play. Canning ended the season ranked in the top-10 nationally in starts, strikeouts and complete games, while also top-10 in the conference in ERA and innings pitched. Canning tied his career-high three times this season with 12 strikeouts. During conference play, he recorded a 6-3 record with a 3.01 ERA in 74.2 innings with 86 strikeouts.

Canning has totaled 301 strikeouts in his career and became just the sixth UCLA player in program history to surpass 300 strikeouts. He also ranks top-10 on the NCAA's active career list for shutouts, complete games and strikeouts.
