
Cross Country Travels to Griak Invite

LOS ANGELES โ The UCLA Cross Country squad heads to Falcon Heights, Minn. for the 32nd annual Roy Griak Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 23. The competition will be run on Les Bolstad Golf Course and is hosted by the University of Minnesota.
UCLA will see its first action at 12:10pm CT/10:10am PT with the men's Division I race. The Bruin women will toe the line at 1:20pm CT/ 11:20am PT.
The UCLA men enter the weekend 20th in the latest USTFCCCA national rankings. Headlining the Bruin men's competition are the Cyclones of Iowa State, who enter the meet as the 13th-ranked squad in the nation. Colorado State (18th) and Michigan State (25th) fill out the men's nationally ranked opponents this weekend.
The Bruin women come into the Griak Invite ranked 10th in the West Region by the USTFCCCA. They will also face stiff competition this weekend, as four Top 25 teams will be on the line. The UCLA women will have to contend with eighth-ranked University of San Francisco, as well as the nationally-ranked squads of Michigan State and Iowa State. The 19th- ranked Golden Gophers of Minnesota will also pose a challenge as they look to defend their home course.
This is UCLA's second competition of the season. The Bruins opened their season on Sept. 2 at the George Kyte Classic in Flagstaff.
The UCLA men went toe-to-toe with the defending national champions of Northern Arizona for a second-place finish. Junior Jackson Marshall paced the Bruins with a sixth-place finish, with UCLA placing four runners in the Top 10.
The Bruin women placed third overall and were led by senior Emily Scharmann, who took fifth with a time of 15:44.3 on the 2.6 mile course. Three of the Bruins' Top 7 runners were true freshmen.
