September 24, 2017 | Men's Soccer
LOS ANGELES – Brian Iloski and Santiago Herrera each scored a goal as the UCLA men's soccer team defeated CSUN, 2-1, on Sunday from Drake Stadium. With the win, UCLA improves to 3-3-0 on the season.
"For the most part I thought we had the game under control," said head coach Jorge Salcedo. "Going down 1-0 and then scoring two goals to come back and win the game 2-1 is a good feeling for us and something that we are happy about."
The Bruins outshot CSUN (5-4-0) 11-5, including 6-1 in shots on goal.
With the score knotted at 1-1 after the first half, UCLA went ahead 2-1 early in the second period as Brian Iloski was fouled in the box in the 51st minute. He would then step up and finish the ensuing penalty kick with a strong shot passed the outstretch arms of the goalkeeper. It is Iloski's fifth goal of the season and his third successful penalty kick in 2017.
CSUN scored the opening goal of the match in the 17th minute as Daniel Trejo took a shot that deflected off a UCLA defender and into the net.
UCLA responded with the equalizer five minutes later to tie the match at 1-1 as Anderson Asiedu and Eric Iloski found a streaking Herrera with a through ball into the box and his low, strong shot beat the keeper. It marks Herrera's second goal of the season.
The Bruins continue their three-game homestand next week as they open Pac-12 play hosting California on Thursday, Sept. 28 at 8 p.m. PT followed by Stanford on Oct. 1 at 5 p.m. PT. Both matches will be broadcast live on the Pac-12 Networks.
