Huge Fourth Quarter Propels No. 13/12 UCLA to Win

The Bruins held the Huskies without a field goal in the final period en route to an 86-69 win at Washington.

SEATTLE (AP) – Senior point guard Jordin Canada had 22 points on 9-of-15 shooting, including 13 points in the third quarter on Friday night and the No. 13 UCLA women took control in the fourth quarter to beat Washington 86-69 at Alaska Airlines Arena.
The Huskies scored the first point of the fourth quarter on Amber Melgoza's free throw that tied it at 62. The Bruins (16-4, 7-2 Pac-12) then scored the next 19 points, making six of their first nine from the field. Japreece Dean's 3-pointer with 4:43 left capped the 19-0 run at 81-62. Dean went 3-for-3 from downtown in the final period, finishing the game with 17 points. The Huskies (7-13, 1-8) missed all 13 of their field-goal attempts in the period.
UCLA trailed 37-34 at halftime and outscored Washington 28-24 in the third quarter to lead 62-61 going into the fourth. The Bruins improved to 16-0 on the year when leading after three periods.
The Bruins reached two milestones during the game as Canada became the fifth player in Pac-12 history to record 300 steals and UCLA posted its 800th win in program history.
Michaela Onyenwere added 12 points, Kennedy Burke and Monique Billings scored 10 each for the Bruins, which had five players score in double figures.
Melgoza had 20 points to lead the Huskies. Hannah Johnson scored 17 points and Jenna Moser added 16.
UCLA returns to action on Sunday, Jan. 28 when it travels to Washington State for a 3:06 p.m. PT tip-of on the Pac-12 Networks.
