Amaya Earns All-Freshman Acclaim From TopDrawer
December 18, 2018 | Men's Soccer
LOS ANGELES – UCLA freshman midfielder Frankie Amaya was named to the TopDrawerSoccer Freshman Best XI Second Team, the website announced on Tuesday.
The national honor continues what has been an accolade-filled debut season in Westwood for Amaya.
Earlier this year, Amaya was named First Team All-Pac-12 and also earned a spot on the United Soccer Coaches Far West All-Region Team. He was the first Bruin freshman to earn First Team All-League status since Jose Hernandez in 2015.
The Santa Ana, Calif. native was recalled by the U.S. U-20 Men's National Team twice during the course of the season. In November, he helped the U.S. to a second straight CONCACAF U-20 title, ensuring a spot in next year's U-20 World Cup.
With UCLA, Amaya recorded two goals and two assists for six points over 14 games played (10 starts). He netted his first NCAA goal on Sept. 22 at UC Santa Barbara, then chipped in another goal as part of a 2-1 Bruin win over San Diego State on Oct. 13.
