CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. - Redshirt freshman Aaliyah Jordan recorded her first collegiate home run, while sophomore Bubba Nickles posted a career-high four hits, as the fourth-ranked Bruins defeated Grand Canyon on Monday 7-6 to close out the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic I.

The Bruins improved to 10-0, while the Lopes fell to 3-8.

UCLA tallied 16 hits, as Jordan had a pair with four RBI, senior Kylee Perez added three with two RBI and freshman Briana Perez also had three hits. In the circle, senior Johanna Grauer (3-0) struck out three in 3 2/3 innings of relief to earn the win, giving up two runs, five hits and one walk. She had a 1-2-3 inning in the fourth and struck out two in the third. Redshirt sophomore Rachel Garcia pitched a pair of 1-2-3 innings, striking out the last four batters she faced, for her first save of the season. Senior Selina Ta'amilo started and allowed four runs (three earned), two hits and three walks in 1 1/3 innings.

The Bruins trailed for just the second time this season after Grand Canyon scored in the top of the first on an RBI fielder's choice grounder off the bat of Laynee Gomez. UCLA responded with three in its half of the first. The Perez sisters led off with singles, both moved up on a wild pitch and both scored on a double to left-center by Jordan to make it 2-1. Jordan advanced to third on a passed ball, and two outs later, scored on a single to center by Nickles to bring the lead to 3-1.

Grand Canyon re-took the lead with four in the second on a bases-clearing triple by Loriann Olson, who would go on to score the Lopes' fifth run on a wild pitch. But again, the Bruins answered with four of their own in the bottom of the second. Junior Zoe Shaw led off with a single and moved to third on a double to left-center by freshman Kinsley Washington. One out later, Kylee Perez singled up the middle to plate both to even the game at five. Jordan followed with her first home run to right-center to give the Bruins a 7-5 lead. It was Jordan's eighth consecutive hit, which would tie for the third-longest streak in UCLA history before it was snapped in her next at-bat.

The Lopes would finish out the scoring in the fifth with a sacrifice fly by Jordon Keeton to make it 7-6, but Garcia finished things up to preserve the win for Grauer and the Bruins.

In their second game of the day, an exhibition contest against Team Japan, the Bruins fell 6-0. Junior Paige Halstead had a double and Kylee Perez recorded a single, as Garcia struck out the side in the seventh.

The Bruins are back in Cathedral City this upcoming weekend, facing Nebraska (5:30 p.m.) and Liberty (8 p.m.) on Friday to open a five-game schedule. Live audio and live stats will be available at UCLABruins.com.
