No. 11 UCLA Falls to USC at Dodger Stadium, 3-2

LOS ANGELES โ Zach Pettway threw 6.1 innings totaling seven strikeouts, while Michael Toglia and Jeremy Ydens each drove in a run as the No. 11 UCLA baseball team fell to USC, 3-2, on Sunday at Dodger Stadium in the final game of the Dodger Stadium College Baseball Classic.
Pettway tossed 6.1 innings in relief allowing two runs on just two hits, coming into the game in the first inning after starter Jon Olsen left after being hit by a line drive. USC's Quentin Longrie tossed 4.2 innings in the start allowing two runs on two hits and five walks.
Tied 2-2 in the eighth inning, Lars Nootbaar would give USC its first and only lead of the game as he hit a solo home run over the right-field wall to give the Trojans a one-run advantage heading into the ninth inning.
The Bruins looked to extend the game in the top of the ninth when Jarron Silva came up and ripped a single to right field followed by Toglia hitting a ball through the left side to put runners on first and third. However, USC's Connor Lunn was able to get a strike out on the next batter for the final out of the game.
UCLA scored the first run of the game in the third inning as Ryan Kreidler led off with a walk and came around to score on a Jeremy Ydens sacrifice fly to right field. USC answered in the bottom of the fourth inning with a solo home run to right field by Dillon Paulson to tie the game at 1-1.
The Bruins regained the lead in the fifth inning as UCLA loaded the bases for Michael Toglia who drew a four-pitch walk to plate Kreidler from third base. The Trojans once again responded with a run in the seventh inning when Blake Sabol hit a triple to right field and crossed home plate on a fielder's choice to make the score 2-2.
Lunn earned the win tossing the final 1.1 innings without allowing a run and struck out one. UCLA's Garrett Barker suffered the loss throwing 0.2 innings allowing one run on one hit with one strikeout.
UCLA (10-4) scored two runs on five hits with no errors, while USC (9-4) finished the game with three runs on six hits and no errors.
The Bruins will return to the field on Tuesday for a midweek game on the road at CSUN beginning at 2 p.m. before returning to Jackie Robinson Stadium over the weekend to open Pac-12 conference play against Washington State.
Game Notes: The Bruins drew eight or more walks for the fourth time this season ... Zach Pettway tied a career-high with seven strikeouts ... Pettway struck out five straight batters becoming the first Bruin since Justin Hooper on Feb. 21 of last season to accomplish the feat ... Ryan Kreidler scored a season-high two runs and set a career-best with two stolen bases ... Jeremy Ydens drove in his sixth RBI of the season ... Jarron Silva collected his first hit of the season.
