UCLA Advances to Grand Final Races in San Diego

SAN DIEGO – The UCLA women's rowing team registered a pair of second-place finishes on Saturday on the first day of the two-day San Diego Crew Classic at Mission Bay.
 
Each of the Bruins' four boats advanced to Grand Final races on Sunday.
 
The Bruins' second varsity eight and varsity four crews both raced to second-place finishes, while UCLA's varsity eight and novice eight boats finished third.
 
UCLA's varsity eight crew posted a time of 6:55.531, crossing the finish line behind Texas (6:41.267) and USC (6:44.208). The Bruins finished nearly two seconds ahead of Stanford (6:57.596) and also bested Tennessee (7:01.920) and San Diego (7:17.008).
 
The second varsity eight registered a time of 6:59.744, finishing second to Texas (6:44.069). UCLA crossed the finish line ahead of Tennessee, Kansas State, Loyola Marymount and UC Santa Barbara.
 
UCLA's varsity four crew crossed the finish line with a time of 7:39.413, finishing second to Texas (7:24.418). The Bruins recorded better times than Kansas State (7:46.365), Sacramento State (8:01.388) and Portland (8:12.656).
 
The Bruins' novice eight boat finished third, behind Texas (6:53.883) and Loyola Marymount (7:11.298). UCLA posted a time of 7:14.468, finishing ahead of Sacramento State (7:16.031), British Columbia (7:17.454) and UC Santa Barbara (8:12.450).
 
UCLA will return to action at Mission Bay on Sunday morning. UCLA's varsity four will race at 8:24 a.m., followed by the Bruins' novice eight crew at 8:56 a.m. UCLA's second varsity eight will race at 9:44 a.m., while the varsity eight crew is scheduled to launch at 10:32 a.m. Lastly, UCLA will race once second varsity four crew at 11:40 a.m.
