SALT LAKE CITY, Utah -ย The third-ranked Bruins exacted revenge on Utah after the Utes swept UCLA in Westwood last year, turning the tables with a 9-4 victory on Saturday at Dumke Family Softball Stadium to complete a weekend sweep.
ย
UCLA improved to 31-2 overall and 7-2 in Pac-12 play, while Utah fell to 17-15 and 2-7 in league.
ย
The Bruins had nine hits from six different players, as sophomore Bubba Nickles, redshirt freshman Aaliyah Jordan and freshman Briana Perez all had two hits. In the circle, senior Selina Ta'amilo moved to 7-1 with 3 1/3 innings of relief, striking out three and giving up two runs, four hits and two walks. Senior Johanna Grauer started and walked five in two hitless frames. Freshman Holly Azevedo tossed 1 2/3 innings, striking out one and allowing two runs, two hits and four walks.
ย
For the third game in a row, the Bruins scored two runs in the first inning, this time without the benefit of a hit. Senior Kylee Perez and Jordan each reached on one-out errors to put runners at the corners, with a sacrifice fly to left from redshirt sophomore Rachel Garcia bringing in the Bruins' first run. Consecutive walks to junior Brianna Tautalafua, Nickles and junior Taylor Pack forced in Jordan to make it 2-0.
ย
The Bruins added four in the second. With one out, Briana Perez singled to left-center and stole second, and after a walk to Kylee Perez, Jordan singled up the middle to bring in Briana to make it 3-0. After Jordan moved up on a wild pitch, Garcia stroked a ball through the 3-4 hole for an error, as Kylee and Jordan came in to increase the lead to 5-0. A Tautalafua single to left moved Garcia to second and a Nickles double to left plated Garcia with the Bruins' sixth run.
ย
Utah got on the board with two runs in the fourth on a two-run double from Ryley Ball, but UCLA got one of the runs back in the fifth. Freshman Julie Rodriguez tripled to right to open the frame and scored on a sacrifice fly to center off the bat of freshman Kinsley Washington to make it 7-2.
ย
In the bottom of the fifth, the Utes cut their deficit to 7-4 on a two-run single by Alyssa Barrera. But UCLA answered again with one in the sixth. On another two-out rally, Nickles singled to left-center and junior Paige Halstead, Rodriguez and freshman Malia Quarles all walked to bring in the Bruins' eighth run.
ย
In the seventh, UCLA benefitted from Utah's fourth error of the game, as Jordan reached with one out, Garcia walked and redshirt senior Jelly Felix doubled to left to score Jordan to make it 9-4.

Next up for the Bruins is a non-conference home game on Tuesday against CSUN at 6 p.m. at Easton Stadium. Free live audio will be available on UCLABruins.com.
