Justine/Sponcil Named Pac-12 Pair of the Week

SAN FRANCISCOย -- UCLA junior Sarah Sponcilย (Phoenix, Ariz.) and sophomore Lily Justineย (Chico, Calif.) have been named the Pac-12 Beach Volleyball Pair of the Week as announced by the league office today. They are the fourth different pair to earn the honor during the 2018 season.
The pair extended their winning streak to 10 matches going 6-0 this week and are 26-7 overall.
The duo only dropped one set by two points, helping UCLA go 6-0 as well in its first-ever week as the nation's No. 1 team, leading the Bruins to wins over five ranked teams in the processย (No. 4 USC, 3-2;ย No. 6 Long Beach State, 5-0; No. 20 Saint Mary's, 5-0; No. 5 Cal Poly, 4-1; No. 13 Stanford, 4-1).
The victory over the Cardinal was a UCLA-record 25th consecutive dual match win (21 against ranked teams and nine vs. teams in the top 10), surpassing 24 the Bruins had last year.
Additionally, UCLA ran its overall record to 30-3 on the year, which ties the Bruins' record for most wins in a season (30-6 last year).
It is the first-career weekly honor for either player and the fourth this season for a Bruin pair. It is the eighth-all-time weekly nod for UCLA since the award's inception in 2016.
