UCLA Concludes Day One at Clemson Invitational

CLEMSON, S.C. – The UCLA women's rowing team registered a second-place finish by the varsity four crew on Friday evening, the first of two days of rowing at the annual Clemson Invitational.
 
The two-day event features 21 teams, including UCLA, from across the country with eight of the rowing programs currently ranked among the top 20 in the nation.
 
UCLA's varsity four crew (V4+) registered the Bruins' best finish on Friday. In addition, UCLA's varsity eight posted a fourth-place finish in a seven-boat heat, while the second varsity eight boat finished sixth. UCLA's third varsity eight (3V8+) raced to a third-place finish.
 
The Bruins' V4+ crew posted a time of 7:11.54, finishing behind first-place Ohio State (7:01.20). UCLA crossed the finish line ahead of Syracuse, Cornell, Clemson, USC and Tulsa.
 
The Bruins' varsity eight crew (V8+) raced to a fourth-place finish with a time of 6:28.22. UCLA was just over 13 seconds behind top finisher Ohio State (6:15.14). USC and Syracuse finished the race second and third, respectively. UCLA finished fourth, followed by Tulsa, Cornell and Clemson.
 
UCLA's second varsity eight crew raced to a sixth-place finish with a time of 6:37.30.
 
UCLA's third varsity eight (2V8+) finished in third place, 5.38 seconds behind top finisher Ohio State. Minnesota finished second, followed by UCLA, Syracuse, Navy, Tennessee and Indiana.
 
Sessions 2 and 3 of the Clemson Invitational will take place on Saturday, April 14. The morning session is slated to occur between 8:30-10:30 a.m. (ET), while the afternoon session will take place between 5-7 p.m. (ET).
