
UCLA Rowing Concludes Day Two at Clemson

CLEMSON, S.C. – The UCLA women's rowing team concluded the two-day Clemson Invitational on Saturday with four races in the morning followed by four races in an early evening session on Lake Hartwell.
The two-day event in Clemson, S.C., featured 21 teams from across the nation with eight of the rowing programs ranked among the top 20, nationally. UCLA finished 12th out of 21 teams in the final team-by-team point totals. Ohio State finished first, followed by Virginia, Wisconsin and Indiana.
UCLA's varsity four and third varsity eight crews each advanced to 'A' final races in the evening session. UCLA's V4+ finished seventh in the 'A' final race on Saturday evening after having raced to a third-place finished behind Ohio State and Duke in the day's previous race.
The Bruins' varsity eight crew finished sixth in its morning heat before registering a fifth-place finish in the evening 'B' final race. UCLA's V8+ boat posted a time of 6:25.56 in the 'B' final race, as the seven crews were separated by just 7.27 seconds. Oregon State finished first in the 'B' final, followed by Syracuse, Tulsa, Louisville, UCLA, Minnesota and Navy.
UCLA's second varsity eight boat finished third in its morning race before registering a seventh-place finish in the 'B' final race on Saturday evening. UCLA finished behind Ohio State and Washington State on Saturday morning, posting a time of 6:50.71. The Bruins cruised across the finish line ahead of Northeastern, Duke, Navy and Central Florida.
The Bruins' third varsity eight posted a second-place finish with a time of 6:43.04 in its morning heat, crossing the finish line behind Ohio State by fewer than seven seconds. UCLA bested Syracuse, Duke, Wisconsin, Navy and Central Florida. In the evening session, the Bruins finished fourth with a time of 6:40.30.
UCLA will return to action in two weeks against crosstown rival USC in San Pedro, Calif. The races on Saturday, April 28, will be hosted by USC.
