Third-Ranked Bruins Blank Stanford

LOS ANGELES -ย Freshman Holly Azevedo and senior Selina Ta'amilo combined for a three-hit shutout, redshirt freshman Aaliyah Jordan recorded a pair of hits and senior Madeline Jelenickiย drove in a pair of runs on a double, as the third-ranked Bruins blanked Stanford 3-0 on Saturday at Easton Stadium.

The Bruins improved to 34-2 overall and 9-2 in Pac-12 play, winning their ninth in a row and clinching their third Pac-12 series in a row, while the Cardinal fell to 20-16 and 1-7 in league.

Azevedo remained undefeated at 12-0 on the season, striking out one in 4 2/3 innings and giving up two hits and two walks. She had 1-2-3 innings in the third and fourth, retiring nine straight batters at one point. Ta'amilo picked up her second save of the year, striking out two in 2 1/3 innings of relief, allowing a hit and two walks. Offensively, the Bruins had fiveย hits from four different players.

In the bottom of the third, the Bruins got on the board. Junior Zoe Shaw and freshman Kinsley Washington led off the frame with singles, and one out later, Jordan was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Junior Brianna Tautalafua then tapped a ball to third, with Stanford retiring Washington at third, but allowing Shaw to score the game's first run.

UCLA added two more in the sixth. Jordan led off with a single to center and Tautalafua reached on a fielder's choice sacrifice, with junior Jenna Crawford coming in to run. Following a sacrifice by sophomore Bubba Nickles, Jelenicki doubled to the wall in right one batter later to plate Jordan and Crawford to make it 3-0.

Stanford loaded the bases in the top of the seventh, but Ta'amilo closed things out to finish off the Cardinal.
