CORVALLIS, Ore. – Jake Bird tossed a complete game, while Michael Toglia went 2-for-4 with a double as the No. 16 UCLA baseball team dropped the series opener at No. 2 Oregon State, 2-0, on Thursday from Goss Stadium.

Luke Heimlich (14-1) earned the win tossing 7.2 scoreless innings scattering five hits with 10 strikeouts. After the second inning, Bird allowed just two runners on base until the seventh inning when the Beavers would get two batters to reach but a 5-4-3 double play ended the inning.
UCLA looked to push a run across in the sixth inning with back-to-back singles by Chase Strumpf and Toglia with two outs but Heimlich was able to get a ground ball to the second baseman to end the threat.
The Bruins got two more runners on in the seventh inning as Daniel Amaral led off with a single and pinch hitter Jake Hirabayashi drew a walk but UCLA was not able to get a run across as a strikeout ended the frame.
