No. 11 UCLA Suffers 5-1 Setback to Long Beach State

LOS ANGELES โ Jeremy Ydens recorded two hits with a RBI, while Jake Pries finished 2-for-3 as the No. 11 UCLA baseball team fell to Long Beach State, 5-1, on Tuesday night from Jackie Robinson Stadium.
Tyler Radcliffe (2-4) earned the win tossing 4.0 scoreless innings in relief, while starter Jake Lopez tossed 3.0 shutout inning with two strikeouts. Jack Ralston (0-4) suffered the loss allowing three runs on four hits in 3.2 innings with two strikeouts.
After three scoreless innings to start the game, Long Beach State scored five runs in the fourth inning. ย Jacob Hughey drove in the first run with a single up the middle and Chris Jimenez dropped down a sacrifice bunt to plate Jarren Duran. That led to with Shaq Robinson hitting a three-run home run to left field for the 5-0 lead.
UCLA looked to respond in the bottom half of the frame as it loaded the bases with one out, but Radcliffe was able to get a double play to end the inning. Kyle Cuellar almost cut the deficit in the seventh inning with two runners on but his fly ball was one step in front of the wall in center field, followed by Chase Strumpf having his solo home run attempt robbed in the eighth inning by a leaping catch.
The Bruins got on the board in the bottom of the ninth inning when Ydens singled through the left side of the infield to plate Jake Hirabayashi. UCLA would then load the bases with no outs but LBSU's Dylan Spacke (3) came into the game and struck out the next three batters to earn the save.
UCLA (30-14) scored one run on 10 hits with two errors, while Long Beach State (22-26) finished the game with five runs on eight hits with three errors.
UCLA returns to Pac-12 play this weekend when it travels to Washington for a three-game conferenceย series beginning on Friday at 6 p.m. PT from Husky Ballpark.
