McNamara Twins Named UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of Week

Juniors Megan McNamara and Nicole McNamara of the UCLA beach volleyball team have been named the UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athletes of the Week for April 30-May 6.
The McNamara twins went 4-0 over the weekend to help UCLA to its first-ever NCAA championship in beach volleyball in Gulf Shores, Ala. The Pac-12 Pair of the Year started the weekend on Friday with a straight-set win over No. 8 FIU en route to a 3-0 win and also posted the only point for the Bruins in a 3-1 loss to No. 4 Florida State winning both sets 21-19. Coming out of the Contender's Bracket on Saturday, the pair defeated No. 7 LSU's No. 1 pair, 21-10, 21-17, followed by going to a third set with No. 5 USC before the Bruins were able to eliminate the Trojans, 3-1. The McNamara twins helped the Bruins into the championship match on Sunday with a straight set win, 22-20, 21-18, over No. 3 Hawai'i. In the championship match against No. 4 Florida State, the pair were leading in the third set before UCLA was able to clinch the title.
The pair earned All-Tournament Team honors for Court 1 and finished the season with a 35-7 record at the No. 1 pairs position.
It is the 116th overall NCAA championship for UCLA and its third of the year.
This is the McNamara twins' first UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week of the season and the second of their career.
