WAYS, GENAPPE, BELGIUM - Three days away from his 27th birthday, Bruin alum Pedro Figueiredo gave himself an early birthday present, coming back from four strokes behind to force a playoff, while draining a birdie on the first extra hole to win the KPMG Trophy at the L'Empereur Golf & Country Club. It was the first European Challenge Tour victory of his career.
Figueiredo shot a 7-under 64 on Sunday to finish tied at 22-under 262 with Anton Karlsson and Stuart Manley. On the first playoff hole, Figueiredo made birdie on the par-4 18th, while the other two were unable to convert on their attempts. The Bruin alum got in contention for the playoff by making two birdies in his last four holes.
"It feels really good to win," Figueiredo told the European Tour website. "It's my first victory on the Challenge Tour. I'm beyond words, it feels really good. I've had a few tough years starting as a pro and now to come back strong and be able to win on the Challenge Tour means a lot to me. I'm very thankful for it and it feels really good. It means a lot for my confidence. Knowing that I'm able to win here on the Challenge Tour because the level is great out here, it means a lot. I hope to build on that confidence and get a few more victories in the future."
The win moves Figueiredo into 10th in the Road to Ras Al Khaimah standings.
