
Lee, Redlicki Earn Conference Medals

SAN FRANCISCO โ UCLA gymnastics senior Christine Peng-Peng Lee and men's tennis senior Martin Redlicki have been named Pac-12 Tom Hansen Medal recipients for 2017-18, the conference announced Tuesday.
A Conference Medal is awarded annually to each member institution's outstanding senior male and female student-athlete based on the exhibition of the greatest combination of performance and achievement in scholarship, athletics and leadership.
Lee saved the finest performance of her UCLA career for last, recording a perfect 10 on the balance beam to complete a dramatic team comeback and secure the seventh NCAA title in program history. The 10 marked the second in as many events for the Toronto, Ontario, Canada native, who also shined on the uneven bars. Lee secured the NCAA and Pac-12 titles on beam and was named the sport's Honda Award winner for 2018. She also earned recognition for her work off the field of play as the Pac-12 Gymnastics Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
Lee's decorated 2018 capped a stellar career that did not begin as anticipated. Recovering from two knee surgeries, she redshirted in 2013 and 2014 before returning to garner nine All-America honors and 10 total perfect 10s over her four years of competition. Lee also racked up accolades in the classroom, registering four Pac-12 All-Academic Honorable Mention nods. She was also named Pac-12 Specialist of the Year and West Region Gymnast of the Year in 2017.
Redlicki also had a senior season to remember, completing the year atop the Oracle/ITA Singles Ranking with a record of 29-7. The Boca Raton, Fla. native went 24-6 versus nationally-ranked opponents, a mark that was boosted by a run to the semifinal round of the NCAA singles championships. He ultimately concluded his time as an NCAA champion, teaming with Evan Zhu for the second doubles title of his career. The pair went 23-5 (18-5 in dual matches) and picked up its second-straight Pac-12 Doubles Team of the Year Award, while Redlicki was named the ITA Senior Player of the Year and Pac-12 Singles Player of the Year. In addition, Redlicki tacked on the Pac-12 Men's Tennis Scholar-Athlete of the Year honor.
For his career, Redlicki registered a 114-32 singles record and a 93-28 doubles mark. The lefty was twice acknowledged as a singles All-American and was honored three times for his doubles play. A consistent presence on the Pac-12 All-Academic list, Redlicki was recognized three times, including a pair of First-Team accolades.
Conference medal winners have been named every year since the 1960-61 academic year. In 2009, the Pac-12 renamed the award the Tom Hansen Conference Medal in honor of Hansen, who retired at the end of June 2009 after serving for 26 years as Commissioner of the Pac-10.
